Call of Duty is back to its World War II roots. But how has it changed to keep the franchise fresh?

Call of Duty is back to its World War II roots. But how has it changed to keep the franchise fresh?

[By Ryan]

Call Of Duty: World At War is the newest game in the Call Of Duty series. I’m not going to be a moron and call it “Call Of Duty 5” like most people would, cause guess what, it’s not the fifth. SURPRISE! (Anyone remember Big Red One?) Anyway, the Call Of Duty series has gone back to it’s World War II roots. I’ve had a pretty extensive hands on with the online mode, and color me impressed. But is it Call Of Duty 4 with a new paint job, or does World At War hold it’s own in the series? Hit the jump for my answer, and my experience with the game thus far. Continue reading

Kojima Wanting To Work On FPS? by Anthony Barlow

I’m a bit late on this rumour, but it’s Kojima news so i’m posting it nontheless. According to Joystiq the master of Metal Gear, Hideo Kojima, could be working on a first person shooter. Apparently Kojima has been seen visiting Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Guerilla Games.

Could it be that Kojima will be working on an FPS set in the Metal Gear universe? That would be nice, of course that’s probably completely wrong. Maybe he was ‘shopping’ for a new producer to replace Ryan Payton. Who knows? I don’t even think Kojima does.

Quantum Of Solace is getting trophies at launch, sweet. The game looks really cool and it looks like Treyarch might have actually made something good here. Bond games have had troubled past and have not been the best. Could Quantum Of Solace be the best Bond game since Goldeneye? We’ll have to wait and see. For those who want some Bond stuff now, the trophy list are after the jump. Continue reading

COD: World At War Gets 4 Player Online Co-Op Campaign by Anthony Barlow

Call Of Duty 4’s campaign mode was great, it was amazing in fact but how much better would it’ve been if you could’ve had an online ally there with you? It would’ve been better. Treyarch are going to try and remedy that as today they announced, via a new trailer, that Call Of Duty: World At War would include a 4 player online co-op campaign mode. No longer will you have to fight alongside just the A.I., however good it might be it’s always better knowing someone has got your back.

This has got me really excited about the game now. I like playing the campaign mode in co-op. Don’t ask me why, I just do. It’s probably something to do with the cameraderie of it all, or maybe just bad A.I. Whatever it is this is definitely a cool feature to have in the game a redeeming quality to something some people may find at tad outdated.

The game is coming this November. 2008 seems like one of the best years to be a gamer, well in my opinion at least.

Kiefer Sutherland To Voice Act In COD: World At War by Anthony Barlow

It was announced by Treyarch at Activision’s E3 presser last night that 24’s Kiefer Sutherland would be doing voice acting in the new Call Of Duty game. There’s no specifics right now but i’ll bet anyone he plays an American solider. It’d be great if he was the voice of the main character but it’s more likely he’ll be an A.I. controlled squad mate or something.

This would really suck if he was in it for like ten seconds then never seen again.

New Bond Game Looks Amazing by Anthony Barlow

A new bond game never really excites me, they always seemed a bit crappy. This time it’s Treyarch developing and the game is being built on the Call Of Duty 4 engine and I have to say it looks amazing. The 1st person/3rd person hybrid camera mode seems to work really well. The game looks great, the gun models are as good as COD4 and the environments look really cool and polished. It a word it’s amazing.

The story is said to take place across the Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace movies which definitely offers up some interesting stuff right there (parkour minigame anyone?). Not only that but it gives the devs a lot more to work with.

The only thing i’m worried about is the quicktime sequences which the team seem to have used to create those great James Bond moments from the movies. As long as they work well and don’t spoil the flow of the game i’m cool with ’em but if they start to get in the way during firefights that’s not good.

Overall it looks cool and will obviously apparently be releasing alongside the new movie on every platform going. There’s a dev. diary up on GameTrailers so go now watch it.
