The Beatles Coming To Rock Band & Not Guitar Hero? by Anthony Barlow

The Beatles coming to a rhythm action game has been one of the hottest rumors surrounding the genre since, well, forever. It now looks like this rumor could become fact. MTV have sent out a press release saying that they’re holding a press conference tomorrow about an “exclusive agreement to develop a global music project.”.

MTV owns Harmonix (makers of Rock Band e.t.c.) and also owns Apple Corps. who have administrated all Beatles releases since the 1960’s. Said press release mentions one of the key PR people representing Rock Band 2, which is one of the main things that has sparked up the rumor mill on this one.

Back in June the Financial Times mentioned that both Harmonix and Activision had been trying to secure a deal with Apple Corps., could it be that this is the result? Of course Activision could make a similar announcement, who knows? If it’s true this is the megaton of all megatons. I might be a Manc but you gotta love the Beatles, even if they are Scouse.

We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out, ooh I can’t wait.

The rumor mill hasn’t been as active as it usually is but it looks like it might be back in full force. EA’s external PR partners might have let slip the release window for the PS3 version of Rock Band 2 in Europe. We already know, through advertisments, that the game is coming to European 360’s in November. Could it be that the rest of the releases are coming a month later? It looks like that the case. Something that was promised quite a while ago is finally coming to Rock Band and Rock Band 2. For some reason they’ve decided to release only half the album at the moment, and for $10.99 USD. It’s not a bad price (less than 2 USD for each song)  and should be a decent track pack for fans of Nirvana, I for one am not a Nirvana fan, so I can’t see myself downloading it. Keep checking back for updates on the Rock Band store. Hit the jump for the list. Continue reading

Rock Band 2 has been officially dated for the PS3 today. I rumored some months ago that the game was coming on October 14th, but it looks like I was a few days out. Either way this is great news for all of us bedroom rockers out there.

Also announced was that the bundle (for both PS3 and 360) will be released on the same day, which is great for those who’re just getting the game or want to get those (slightly) improved instruments. The bundle will retail at $189.99 with the game coming in at $59.99 and the standalone guitar retailing at $69.99.

No news on the ION drumkit yet. A couple of places have dated it, with one retailer now taking pre-orders on the £300 monster kit.

Remember, those who want their 20 free tracks (why wouldn’t you) can sign up here when you’ve got the game.

Well, I finally got through all of Rock Band 2. It was a somewhat lengthy, partly frustrating, but mostly hell of a fun journey. It took me a bit to get through every ounce of it, but I’m finally done. Is it worth you’re 60$ (or 189.99$ if you’re buying the whole kit) ? Hit the jump to read my final verdict. Continue reading
