It’s been out since December in Japan, but finally the ‘make it easier’ patch for PixelJunk Eden is hitting Western shores this Thursday. The patch adds new features (as requested by fans) and there’s a lot more time on the clock. Also added is a new continue system, but Dylan Cuthbert has said that trophies will not be available to those who decide to use this sytem. Not good, but I guess it makes sense. So for those who can’t get their little Grimpy mitts on the last Spectra, you might be able to do it come tomorrow. There’s no concrete date for the European patch yet, but here’s hoping it’s coming tomorrow.

Also announced (via the PlayStation Blog) was that Eden will be getting an expansion pack. Named PixelJunk Eden: Encore there’s no details about the pack yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t have to wait too long for some.

In other PixelJunk related news, Q-Games’ have announced that PixelJunk Dungeons (that seems to have been confirmed now) will not be the fourth game under the PJ banner. No news on what this fourth title will be (unless it’s Eden Ecore, which I doubt). We’ll be seeing this sometime in Q1 so keep your eyes peeled people.

PixelJunk Monsters PSP

[By Anthony]

The other week, I interviewed Q-Games’ Dylan Cuthbert about the PixelJunk franchise and specifically asked him about possbile PSP ports similar to those seen with Super Stardust and Everyday Shooter. He told us to “watch this space” and well here it is. PixelJunk Monsters is coming to Sony’s portable and, personally, I can’t think of a better PSN game to make the transition.

Why couldn’t you give us yet another exclusive Dylan, why? The game is coming in 2009, I can’t wait.

They did it with Monsters, and now Q-Games are making it a little easier for people to play, the wonderdul, PixelJunk Eden. A new patch will be released on December 19th in Europe & Japan (I assume North America is getting this too) which will make playing Eden a little more peaceful.

A new continue system will be implemented allowing users to easily get back to collecting those elusive spectra. Q are also giving players “a lot more spare time”, which should help make the game a little easier for ‘noobs’ like me.

There will also be tweaks to the camera during multiplayer games, which should help those who are multiplayer minded.

All of this will become available on December 19th, a nice little gift from Dylan and the guys. Although with this news coming mere days after my session with Mr. Cuthbert, it begs the question. Why couldn’t you give us the exclusive?!

I love Eden and I’m sure this patch will make more people love it too. Good on ya guys.

Last week I got in contact with Q-Games’ Dylan Cuthbert and proceeded to quiz him about the PixelJunk games, amongst other things. Being the nice guy that he is, he responded earlier today and, well, hit the jump to see what he had to say. Go on, you know you want to. Continue reading

Q-Games have become a favourite developer with the PS3 community and one of the most prolific on the PS Store, with three games under their belt. Their last game PixelJunk Eden was released back in and with the team now finished with the patch for ‘Monsters’, the community is asking what’s next for Q-Games?

Dylan Cuthbert has been speaking with Parallaxed Gamer and told them the next game would not be unveiled until sometime next year. It was even hinted at that it wouldn’t be shown at GDC. Cuthbert said:

“We can’t talk about any of the future titles yet, we might not even show anything at GDC09, who knows! The next title isn’t necessary based on the Dungeons prototype work as we develop several ideas simultaneously, finally going with the idea that has the most momentum.”

It might be a long ways off, still we’ve got both Eden and Monsters to tide us over until then.

After months of waiting, everyone’s favorite tower defense game PixelJunk Eden is getting it’s long awaited patch. The patch will be released worldwide on October 30th (next week) and of course, like all patches, will be free of charge. Hit the jump for the details.

Said patch includes:

  • Easy & Hard Modes
  • Custom Music
  • YouTube Recording/Uploading
  • Trophies

The patch also gives the towers a few tweaks such as increased durability and extra range on some weapons. Players will also be able to use the ‘Ice Tower’ now without spending those precious gems 🙂 .]

There’s been some details released on the PS Blog about trophy support and how Q-Games have made it so users don’t have to replay everything again, and no it’s not retroactivity. It’s a whole new mode!

Coming with the pactch is ‘Trophy Challenge’ mode, which allows users to complete challenges to earn specific trophies within the game. Nice to know that Q-Games are looking out for our best interests.

If anyone hasn’t picked this up (along with the expansion) then you definitely should it’s gotta be one of the most addictive games on the PS Store. With the addition of trophy support, I forsee a bump in sales of an already great, if not slightly unappreciated game.
