EA made one hell of an announcement yesterday. It had been rumored for a while that the sequel to BioWare’s RPG Mass Effect would make it’s way onto the PS3 and EA have now confirmed this, to the delight of many a PS3 owner. The game was announced at the most recent of EA’s financial earnings calls.  Also announced was the sequel to the extremely popular first person shooter Battlefield: Bad Company. Not bad, not bad at all. Not too much else to report. There’s no word about a possible port of the original Mass Effect to the PS3, but I think we can expect it. Especially with a 360 game of the year edition around the corner. The games have been given no formal release date but, according to EA’s John Riccitiello the games will be out before Q4 2010.

Mirrors Edge DLC Coming In 2009 by Anthony Barlow

Mirrors Edge has now been, or is about to be, released in most territories. So now that we have the game EA and DICE feel it’s time to let loose some of the info about downloadable content for the game. The content will be released in early 2009 (January me thinks). A Sony rep had said that there would be PS3-exclusive downloadable content. It’s quite likely the content will come in the form of time trials but it would be nice to see EA add in some extra story chapters (apparently the story is a little ropey). Obviously, we’ll have to wait and see. I’m optimistic though. Then again it’ll probably be a skin pack 🙂 .

EA Giving Away Mirrors Edge Music by Anthony Barlow

EA being generous, no way. It seems like EA’s semi-generous streak is continuing. This time it comes alongside the release of the highly anticipated, parkour based, FPS (sort of) Mirrors Edge. EA are giving away 5 free songs from the game’s soundtrack. To download them click here. Now wasn’t that easy. I’ve no idea how good (or bad) the aformentioned music is, but you can’t complain it’s costing nothing.

I’ve recently downloaded and played the Mirror’s Edge demo. When I first saw this game I was skeptical about the how the controls would work, and if this was just another gimmick to sell a game. Hit the jump to see how this demo has changed my mind. Also, this is just a demo play-through, so come back soon for Anthony’s full hands-on with the game from his visit to i35. Continue reading

The update for the DICE developed Battlefield:Bad Company has gone live today, adding four new maps, Acta Non Verba, Crossing Over, Ghost Town and Par For The Course.  Weighing in at 269mb the update also adds trophy support for the PS3 version, also refreshingly the online trophies ARE retroactive, I’ll say that again, the online trophies are retroactive.  So just start up the multiplayer section of the game and sit back and watch those trophies roll in.  List of additional gameplay changes after the jump Continue reading

The demo for EA/DICE’s upcoming parkour based first person game Mirrors Edge had been rumored for release in early November. This is not the case. News has just come in that the demo will in fact be hitting the PS Store tomorrow. This gives players the chance to try the game a little bit earlier and hopefully fall in love with it. I’ll be downloading the demo but i’ll save my full impressions for after i35 where i’ll, hopefully, get a better impression of what the game has to offer.

Mirrors Edge is coming this November for PS3 and Xbox 360.

EA have released a new trailer for their upcoming free running/action game ‘Mirrors Edge’. The trailer is done in the same cell-shaded style as the last one and gives us some more details about Faith and the rest of the game.

Personally, i’m really interested in this game and it is out at a relatively uncluttered time in November so I might just pick this one up on release day. The game looks really cool from the gameplay videos i’ve seen and from all accounts it’s a great new concept for the guys at DICE to be working on.

Consider me excited and hit the jump for the trailer Continue reading

It was announced today that EA/DICE’s upcoming game Mirrors Edge will be coming out on November 14th In Europe (11th In North America). Not only that but they said that a demo of the game would be made available on the PSN (and XBL) before the game launches. Sweet.

According to PS3 Fanboy there will also be a pre-order scheme in North America allowing pre-orderers access to a Time Trial mode with a code given out on September 26th. Cool. No news on Europe getting similar treatment though.

Either way it’s nice to see a cool looking game not coming out in October.

New Battlefield Update Fixes Stuff, Adds Trophies by Anthony Barlow

Battlefield Bad Company is getting a patch soon. The patch, that ways in at 345mb, will add the user voted on maps, bug fixes and trophy support. Now as you know, i’m a bit of a trophy whore so this announcement has left me a little miffed that I traded it in.

If the trophies are retroactive then i’ll pick up the game on rent and I might do the same if they’re easy. Hopefully they’ll be retroactive though, because that game ain’t the best.

The patch does fix some of the VOIP issues players have experienced as well as fixing several bugs and adding a few gameplay tweaks.

I might just have to pick this up again to grab some easy trophies, but hopefully they’ll be retroactive.

More news when we get it.

mirrors edge to get excusive ps3 dlc? by Steve

Filed under rumour untill we receive official word from the powers that be, but Dutch site Gamer.nl has stated that Dice and EA’s soon to be released parkour fest Mirrors Edge will be getting exclusive downloadable content for the PS3.  It also goes on to claim Sony has signed exclusive rights for the advertisment campaign for the title.  With the developers DICE having gone on record in the past that they are fans of the PS3 hardware this rumour is possible but with the game being Published by EA it also seems very unlikely, more as soon as we hear it.

Update EA have issued a statement to IGN.com saying they are not in a position to comment on any downloadable content for Mirrors Edge, although they were quick enough to jump all over the rumour the game itself was a PS3 exclusive, the plot thickens.

Today Battlefield developers announced they are to release a new add on map pack this autum, the pack will contain 4 maps, and here’s the best part, you get to decide on 2 maps from the single player game get the multiplayer treatment.  A vote is being held for on the official webiste and the developers will decide on a further 2 themselves.  Personally I’ve been hoping for an updated Wake Island as it has appeared it pretty much every Battlefield game released, but it is good to see DICE supporting the title.  You don’t have much time as the vote ends on the 2nd of September so to register your votes follow the link

Mirrors Edge Getting PS3 Timed Exclusive? – Nope :( by Anthony Barlow

[By Anthony]

EA’s parkour ’em up ‘Mirrors Edge’ looks really promising, but is it going to be a timed exclusive on the PS3? The answer to that is…Nope! SCEE’s David Reeves said last week at GC:

“We are continuously, month after month publishing new titles that bring something unique to different target groups. In a month, it is Gran Turismo, in the next SingStar, as well as Third-Party titles [such] as Mirror’s Edge by Electronic Arts are part of this strategy”

This was misquoted by a German site who sort of read between the lines and decided that Reeves was announcing that ‘Mirrors Edge’ would be a PS3 timed exclusive. That was a shame because it’d be a really cool, innovative exclusive for the PS3 to get but obviously it wasn’t going to get. An EA spokesperson spoke to Button Masher and confirmed that the game would not be exclusive, timed or not for either system, saying:

“Mirror’s Edge will not be timed exclusive for PS3″

Shame really.
