Earlier this week it was announced by MTV that there would be a new music game, developed by Harmonix, starring The Beatles. There were not so many details revealed (apart from a tentative ‘Holiday 2009’ release date). Today it has been revealed that the game will contain 45 songs from the band’s EMI catalog (1961 – 1969). We have also been told that George Martin and his son Giles will be overseeing the transfer of the songs to the new format.

I still think this is a shame that it’s not an AC/DC style track pack (or downloadable) but i’m still excited. Bring on Sgt. Pepper!

As per usual we have next week’s Rock Band update and once again it’s pretty good. There’s a three pack from alternative rock band, The Presidents Of The United States Of America as well as two singles courtesy of Fall Out Boy and Hinder. The response on the foums has been mixed, but I quite like F.O.B. (sorry Ryan 🙂 ) so i’ll give that a shot. Hit the jump for the tracklist. Continue reading

This is the funniest story of the month by far. EA have announced today that they’ve got Barrack Obama and Sarah Palin coming as downloadable characters for Mercenaries 2. We know that Palin is actually Tina Fay (dressed in Palin-esque attire), as for Obama, we don’t know. Could it be another advertising deal with EA?

This is great, just a shame they’re not in a better game. Hit the jump for the trailer. Continue reading

Sorry for the lack of posts today people. I’ve been running around frantically trying to get everything sorted for i35. My travel arrangements have been rescheduled so i’ll be appearing there on Sunday rather than tomorrow (thank god), which gives me more time to organise before the show. I will be taking a camera with me to document the event and hopefully catch some of my interviews on tape.

I’d like to appologise for the lack of coverage these past few days, but rest assured there’ll be some good stuff coming out of Sunday (posted on Monday/Tuesday) so watch this space.

The Beatles Not Coming To Rock Band, Got Their Own Game Instead by Anthony Barlow

Yesterday there was a vague press release from MTV concering Harmonix, Apple Corps. and The Beatles. I, like many others, took this as pretty much confirmation that we’d be seeing the fab four on Rock Band in some form. This is not the case. Instead Harmonix will be producing a Beatles specific game. No details on the game as of yet but i’m sure it’ll be similar to Rock Band, it’s only right. MTV didn’t rule out the potential for Beatles content in Rock Band though, which gives me a little hope. The game has tentatively been dated for the ‘holiday’ season…that’s next year by the way.

LittleBigPlanet has been patched again. The 1.03 patch seems to have made the online experience a little smoother and the servers are back online. This is the third update in a week and although that many patches might make the game seem broken (it isn’t) it’s nice to see MM are quick to fix any problems the community is having.

Sony have today corrected their ad for the 6th episode of their ‘online magazine’ Qore. Originally it was said that one off purchasers of the episode would be able to get into the closed beta for Home. This is now not the case, the invites are available to subscribers only. I am not a Qore subscriber and was looking forward to picking up the 6th episode for the beta. Hit the jump to see what Sony had to say. Continue reading

EastAsiaSoft have informed us that they’re upcoming game has been delayed until “late November”. It was dated for October and with tomorrow’s update being the last of the month many of us were expecting it to turn up, this is not the case. The game has been delayed a year already, what’s another month’s wait?

The Beatles Coming To Rock Band & Not Guitar Hero? by Anthony Barlow

[By Anthony]

The Beatles coming to a rhythm action game has been one of the hottest rumors surrounding the genre since, well, forever. It now looks like this rumor could become fact. MTV have sent out a press release saying that they’re holding a press conference tomorrow about an “exclusive agreement to develop a global music project.”.

MTV owns Harmonix (makers of Rock Band e.t.c.) and also owns Apple Corps. who have administrated all Beatles releases since the 1960’s. Said press release mentions one of the key PR people representing Rock Band 2, which is one of the main things that has sparked up the rumor mill on this one.

Back in June the Financial Times mentioned that both Harmonix and Activision had been trying to secure a deal with Apple Corps., could it be that this is the result? Of course Activision could make a similar announcement, who knows? If it’s true this is the megaton of all megatons. I might be a Manc but you gotta love the Beatles, even if they are Scouse.

We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out, ooh I can’t wait.

So close we can almost touch it

The demo for EA/DICE’s upcoming parkour based first person game Mirrors Edge had been rumored for release in early November. This is not the case. News has just come in that the demo will in fact be hitting the PS Store tomorrow. This gives players the chance to try the game a little bit earlier and hopefully fall in love with it. I’ll be downloading the demo but i’ll save my full impressions for after i35 where i’ll, hopefully, get a better impression of what the game has to offer.

Mirrors Edge is coming this November for PS3 and Xbox 360.
