Slant 6’s SOCOM: Confrontation has finally been given a European release date. The question is…is anyone arsed? I think not. Those living in North America have been able to play the game since late last year. Although it looked promising at first, it didn’t live up to what it could’ve been and it’s ‘problematic’ release didn’t help either.

Either way, if you’re living in Europe and, even with the above comments and the less than impressive review scores (click here to to see Giancarlo’s verdict), you want to play it’s coming out on March 13th…and subsequently going up against Resident Evil 5. I guess it was going to flop anyway, releasing it then gives Sony an excuse.

SOCOM 1.30 Patch In January by Anthony Barlow

The patch many thought was gonna be the saving grace of SOCOM: Confrontation has been delayed again. The 1.30 patch, which adds ‘Quick Match’ and ‘Party’ modes to the game (really, it didn’t have these?) will unfortunately not be available until 2009. Here’s what Sony had to say:

“Unfortunately, due to the Holidays the update will not be approved by SCE Format QA until early next year. Our QA staff will be here, testing the game over vacation, but the SCE QA teams which must approve the update before release will not.”

Shame. Seriously though, anyone who hasn’t given up on this game yet, enjoy what the patch brings. I just don’t think this’ll help bump up the numbers though.

Rumor: SOCOM: Confrontation Delayed In Europe Until 09? by Anthony Barlow

Slant 6’s SOCOM: Confrontation has been under much scrutiny since it’s release in North America last month and the general verdict isn’t good. A rumor has surfaced from Arena 51 that the game will be delayed in Europe until 2009. I actually thought the disc based version has been released in Europe, but I guess that’s not the case. The game had been dated for a November 28th release in Europe, but has now slipped off many a schedule prompting this rumor. There has been no word, as of yet, if the game has indeed been delayed but if it has could it be that Slant 6 are trying to fix everything else before leting Europeans in, or are they waiting out the busy ‘holdiday’ season?┬áBoth of those are quite likely, especially with it’s pretty poor performance. Of course if you’re desperate (and I mean desperate) then import it, it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Slant 6 will be some of the first to admit that the launch of SOCOM: Confrontation was less than successfull. The game was marred with bugs, which left many unable to play the game a week after launch. Not good. Patch 1.20 fixed the majority of these problems and now the devs have announced that the 1.30 patch is on the way, and it’s bringing trophies. Hit the jump for details.

SOCOM Not Launching With Trophies by Anthony Barlow

It has recently been announced that Slant 6’s upcoming tactical shooter SOCOM: Confrontation will not be launching with trophies. PS3 Fanboy were told by Jennifer Clark that:

“The trophies will become available via patch in the coming weeks,”

It is mighty strange that the game hasn’t launched with trophies. I suspect it was a cutback in order for the game to make it’s ship date, which I guess is fair enough. This also explains the lack of a trophy list with the game almost about to hit store shelves.

I guess the trophies could be awarded retroactively, which would be nice for all those players who’d worked their arses off in game. Then again Criterion told us that Burnout’s trophies would be retroactive and wha’dya know, they were’nt. Stay tuned for more on this in the next few weeks.
