American video games magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) has closed it’s doors for the last time today. Ziff Davis Media today announced that the magazine had been shut down and that popular games sites 1Up.com, MyCheats.com, GameVideos.com, GameTab.com had been sold to UGO Entertainment.

The last printed issue of EGM is the January 2009 issue. The fate of the highly popular 1Up podcasts is unclear says MTV Multiplayer’s Patrick Klepek who had recieved comment on the issue from Davis’ Sam Kenedy.

Ziff Davis also layed off 30 people before the decision to fold the magazine and sell the aformentioned sites. I’m sad to see a gaming institution like EGM go. I give my best wishes to everyone at 1Up and those who lost their jobs at Ziff.
