PLAYSTATION Or PlayStation? by Anthony Barlow

The guys over at PS3 Fanboy have pointed out something rather trivival, but interesting nontheless. It seems that in the latest PS3 firmware (2.50) that the word ‘PLAYSTATION’ in the ‘PLAYSTATION Network’ and ‘PLAYSTATION Store’ has been replaced with PlayStation. Of course this is still the same word, but the way it was capitalised before was the official name of the PlayStation 3. Does this mean that

  1. I’ve been mispelling it for months?
  2. That Sony have decided that the “less loud” version is better?

It looks like both of the above statements are true. I personally prefer the new way Sony have put PlayStation, it just looks better for some reason (and means i’m now right). Any thoughts people?

So maybe I was wrong with the whole ‘Thursday release’ thing, and whilst it was logical it was also wong. (Hopefully, not so) epic fail on my part there. Anyway, the firmware is now available to download now, so go on do it. For the full details on what this latest update contanins go here. As well as all of this it was announced yesterday that the firmware would bring Flash 9 support with it, meaning you can watch all of the videos over at the PS Blog and pretty much everywhere else.

There seems to be some good stuff in this update, of course it’s not all nessecary but it’s cool and free and that’s all that matters (especially the free part).

It was recently announced that the PS3’s new firmware update (2.50) would  be ‘coming soon’. Well now it seems soon is sooner than we thought. News around the interwebs is that the PS3’s Firmware 2.50 is coming in October. It was rumored a few weeks back and it’s now been confirmed that the firmware is coming between the dates of the 13th and 19th. Personally, I think that it’ll be out next Thursday (16th) it seems logical anyway.

No details on the update as of yet other than it will have the screen grab feature in there. I hope there’s some cool stuff in there, but it’s not likely.

A PS3 Fanboy tipster sent in the above image from the Home Beta forums. The Home manager ‘TedTheDog’ said that Home and PS3 Firmware 2.50 will be coming in October. The beta currently has a bug which freezes PS3 systems and causes unknown network errors. ‘Ted’ responded with this:

“2.5 is what we’re waiting for and ‘October’ is what I’ve heard, later October is my guess.”

The post also says that the firmware will be released alongside version 1.00 of Home will also be released in October. With the possible release of 2.50 and Home could it be the worldwide roll out of home? It certainly looks that way.

The PS Blog has also updated saying that the Home beta will be expanding very soon. With the continued expansion of the beta it looks even more likely that we’re going to see the long awaited release of Sony’s premier social networking service.

There’s always a bit of a fuss when some details about a new Firmware update form the PS3 leak out. Details about Firmware 2.50, or rather a detail, has come to light today. Apparently with the new firmware, people will be able to do screengrabs during games and save the images directly to the XMB. The feature probably won’t be used too much, but could be used for grabbing images of glitches and such during games (e.g. ghost players in FIFA and COD4 glicthes).

No ideas when this firmware is dropping but with ‘Life With PlayStation’ coming this month too (apparently) it can’t be too far away.
