Earlier this week it was announced by MTV that there would be a new music game, developed by Harmonix, starring The Beatles. There were not so many details revealed (apart from a tentative ‘Holiday 2009’ release date). Today it has been revealed that the game will contain 45 songs from the band’s EMI catalog (1961 – 1969). We have also been told that George Martin and his son Giles will be overseeing the transfer of the songs to the new format.

I still think this is a shame that it’s not an AC/DC style track pack (or downloadable) but i’m still excited. Bring on Sgt. Pepper!

Yesterday there was a vague press release from MTV concering Harmonix, Apple Corps. and The Beatles. I, like many others, took this as pretty much confirmation that we’d be seeing the fab four on Rock Band in some form. This is not the case. Instead Harmonix will be producing a Beatles specific game. No details on the game as of yet but i’m sure it’ll be similar to Rock Band, it’s only right. MTV didn’t rule out the potential for Beatles content in Rock Band though, which gives me a little hope. The game has tentatively been dated for the ‘holiday’ season…that’s next year by the way.

The Beatles coming to a rhythm action game has been one of the hottest rumors surrounding the genre since, well, forever. It now looks like this rumor could become fact. MTV have sent out a press release saying that they’re holding a press conference tomorrow about an “exclusive agreement to develop a global music project.”.

MTV owns Harmonix (makers of Rock Band e.t.c.) and also owns Apple Corps. who have administrated all Beatles releases since the 1960’s. Said press release mentions one of the key PR people representing Rock Band 2, which is one of the main things that has sparked up the rumor mill on this one.

Back in June the Financial Times mentioned that both Harmonix and Activision had been trying to secure a deal with Apple Corps., could it be that this is the result? Of course Activision could make a similar announcement, who knows? If it’s true this is the megaton of all megatons. I might be a Manc but you gotta love the Beatles, even if they are Scouse.

We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out, ooh I can’t wait.
