For those who don’t know, Watchmen is a hugely successful graphic novel which is currently being adapted into a movie. Like most superhero flicks, Watchmen will have a video game tie in. “Oh no” I hear you groan, but fear not dear reader as this actually sounds like it could be good. The game will be a prequel to the movie and will give people a chance to learn more about the movie’s characters and such. Good idea. It was also announced that the game would be episodic and downloadable from the PlayStation Store (and presumably XBLA).Hit the jump for more.

1Up have come out and said that fans need not be worried about their beloved Watchmen franchise being treated badly (a la Spider-Man). The game’s developers have hired several people who worked on the original graphic novel as supervisors and consultants on the game, definitely a good sign.

There are currently very few details on how the game will play, but the way the whole project seems to be taking shape intrigues me and could be good for the superhero/action genre of games. Maybe ‘Watchmen: The End Is Nigh’ will teach the devs behind ‘Spider-Man:  Web Of Shadows’ a thing or too, I hope so at least.

I personally have had heard almost nothing about the franchise but the movie tie-in and the game are intriguing me. Maybe i’ll have to check out the graphic novel or something, it sounds pretty cool.

The game is currently scheduled to be released around the same time as the movie.
