Anything after the 60GB PS3 in Europe won’t play PlayStation 2 games. It’s crap, especially as there’s a ton of great games people haven’t played on that system. The older games might look a bit crappy on a high def television when they’re played on a PS3 but it’s still nice to be able to play games from your collection on one console. Hit the jump for me speculating it up.

With the recent announcement that players will be able to swap out discs for SingStar to allow players to use their older game discs, does this mean 40GB and 80GB PS3 owners will be getting an update to allow them to play PS2 games via software emulation?

Yeah it’d be nice to download your favourite PS2 games off of the PlayStation Store but that’d cost money and would just be a hassle.

Of course this is only rumor for now, but could this be David Reeves hinting at emulation coming as an update for newer PS3 owners? We will have to wait and see, but it looks likely.
