40GB PS3’s Discontinued, Replaced By 80GB, Still $400 – It’s Not A Pricedrop, Honest by Anthony Barlow

Sony have decided to go the way of Microsoft and have dropped the price of the 80GB PS3. Oh wait, no they haven’t they’ve discontinued 40GB models and replaced them with 80GB ones but kept the price the same. See it’s not a pricedrop, yeah right.

Either way it works out well for customers though. The ‘new’ 80GB SKU will obviously include an 80GB PS3 and from the boxart (above) it looks like it’ll be packed in with the DualShock 3 rather than the usual Sixaxis.

The ‘new’ console will ship in September in the US, there’s currently no release date for the SKU in Europe.
