Possibly The Best Video Of ‘09 Already? [Update]

[By Anthony]

YouTube is a great place. Full of music videos, old movie clips, and people like UltraNeko. After a friend showed me a couple of her videos I have grown to hate this woman with, let’s just say, a passion.

For those who don’t know UltraNeko hosts a ’show’ on YouTube called ‘Sadie’s Gaming Infection’. Which is usually horribly bad, but this week it was a little different.

Sure, the presence of UltraNeko herself was a little annoying (ahh the voice!) but she had with her a few very special guests.

*Drumroll*

…The cast of Metal Gear Solid 4, well some of them at least. Somehow UN had gotten them all together to do some Metal Gear Improv. Hit the jump and have a look. (more…)

LBP Patched Twice In Two Days!

Yesterday LittleBigPlanet got patched up to version 1.06, which, well, seemed to make no improvements. Today MM have also given us so patchy goodness (?) with the V 1.07 update. This update just seems to add the ‘LittleBigStore’ to the game as well as some stuff involving the new Metal Gear content (including trophy list.)

At least Media Molecule are supporting it.

Earlier in the week it was revealed that more of the Metal Gear Solid 4 cast would be joining Snakeboy in LittleBigPlanet. On top of that it was also revealed that there would be new (paid-for) levels added via DLC, not bad. Well now we’ve got a release date and new screens. The packs are to be released on the 23rd of December, how nice som LBP Tactical Espionage Action for Christmas. Here’s those lovely screens. Regarde.

Word comes in from the interwebs that the recently revealed Metal Gear Solid Level Pack for LittleBigPlanet will contain new trophies. This will be the first piece of downloadable content to add trophies to the game and personally, I think it’s pretty cool. Seeing as we’ve gotten a good load of info about the pack, i’m sure it can’t be too far away. Hit the jump for the trophy list. (more…)

Metal Gear Solid Costume Pack & Level Kit Coming To LBP

So we knew Old Snake would be making his way into LittleBigPlanet soon enough but it looks like he’ll be joined by some friends (and well one foe). Sometime in the future, it seems players of LittleBigPlanet will be able to download a Costume Pack featuring four characters from Konami’s hugely popular (and my favourite) series. The pack includes:

  • Old Snake
  • Meryl Silverburgh
  • Screaming Mantis
  • Raiden

Pretty cool right? Alongside this pack will be a Level Kit, which will presumably give you stickers, items and whatnot. There’s been no pricing or date announced for these yet, but keep your eyes peeled, the image above comes from the Hong Kong LittleBigPlanet site so they can’t be far away. Looking at the Street Fighter Costume Pack i’d say the costumes will be around £4.79 and the Level Kit around £2.39

Konami Teasing Next Metal Gear! – Not Coming To PS3? [Update]

[By Anthony]

The image above has mysteriously turned up on the landing page for Kojima Productions.  The page contains nothing but the image above and the Konami logo, could this be a hint at the next Metal Gear game? Many people are speculating that the i could relate to DSi or that the ! could be something to do with Ac!d. There’s people also saying that the end logo is something to do with the PC and that the green is a reference to Microsoft. Bloody hell, that’s a hell of a lot being read into an image on a website, but I do agree it is strange. The exclamation mark is a symbol of the MGS franchise and seening as Kojima has said that he wanted to pass on the Metal Gear torch, so to speak. Maybe this ‘new guy’ wants to take Metal Gear in a new direction and on a new console.

The MGS fanboy inside me is raging at the moment, I would hate to see the next Metal Gear game not appear on PS3, especially if it was a continutation of the story in a major way. Come on Kojima, tell us, we need to know!

[Update]

Konami have responded to VG24/7 about the recently released Metal Gear teaser on the Kojima Productions site. They’ve not said too much though only:

“I am afraid that Konami does not comment on speculation,”

The classic line, as crushing as it is for Metal Gear fans, it isn’t a denial.

Pro Evo 2009 To Sponsor Lazio

More football (soccer) related news here. Italian football club Lazio will be sporting a new shirt for their upcoming game against Inter Milan. Videogame related sponsorship is nothing new to the world of football with Sega having sponsored Arsenal, Nintendo did the same with Fiorentina and Microsoft currently sponsoring the Seattle Sounders. This though is different, although video game companies have sponsored clubs, never has a team been sponsored by a specific game. That’s all about to change.

For one game only Lazio will be wearing a shirt sponsored by Konami’s footy game Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (above). With FIFA winning over critics and fans alike, this is a smart move from Konami. I don’t think it’ll work as well as they think it will though.

Konami have released the 1.20 update for Metal Gear Online. The new patch adds support for the MEME pack as well as a few new things such as: the ‘headshot’s invalid lobby’ and ‘Stealth deathmatch’. This all sounds well and good, if only it was a better game. Hit the jump for the full list. (more…)

Kojima Given Lifetime Achievement Award By MTV, Jade Raymond

Hideo Kojima was honoured at the MTV Games Awards. Kojima was presented the award by Jade Raymond of Ubisoft fame. When asked about the accolade, the legendary designer said:

“I have to say, even though I received this award, let me state that I will not retire. I will continue to create games as long as I live.”

We’re glad to hear that, hopefully we’ll be seeing them on the PS3 exclusively. That would be nice. It’s nice to see Kojima honoured the way he should be.

MGO MEME Pack Dated

Konami are still pumping out expansions for Metal Gear Online. The MEME pack, announced back at Leipzig, is to hit Japanese shores on November 25th. A combined pack of the GENE and MEME packs is also set to be released on the same day. I think MGO is a massive missed opportunity, there’s so many things it could’ve done to be better. It’d be nice to see a new, better version of the game. I doubt we’ll be seeing it soon though.

Insomniac ‘Hearts’ Metal Gear 4

Easter eggs (no not chocolate ones, although they’re good too) are great, especially when they come in big AAA titles like Resistance 2. Some users have found that the guys over at Insomniac seem to have a liking for the work of Hideo Kojima (who dosen’t). Players have found the words “MGS4 PWNS” on the side of an ammo crate in the co-op mode. To find the little gem for yourself check the ‘Spec Ops’ ammo crate after “prototype ammo berserk” has been activated. It’s nice to see devs appreciating the work of others, I wonder what Kojima thinks about this? I wonder if we’ll ever know?

GTi Club+ Coming December 4th

We’ve just gotten word that the remake of Konami’s classic racer GTi Club, the aptly named GTi Club+, is set to be released on December 4th in Europe for £9.99. There’s been no details on a North American release but i’m assuming it’ll be out around the same time.

Not bad, I hope some more classic Konami titles are coming to the PSN too. Where’s my Metal Gear Solid? Answer me that Konami!

Silent Hill: Homecoming Delayed In Europe

Oh delays, how we hate them. Konami have announced that their forthcoming survival horror game Silent Hill: Homecoming has been delayed for Europe. Those living in North America have been playing the game since last month and it looks like issues with the translation are the cause of the European delay. Konami have now said the game will be coming to European shores in February 2009, which is a bit of a way off.

The game has been getting pretty mixed reviews, but if your a die hard Silent Hill fan and don’t want to wait, importing looks like your only option.

PES 2009 Has Trophies?

[By Anthony]

According to our friends over at TheSixthAxis Konami’s footy sim Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2009 is implementing the PS3’s trophy system. It is not known if the game will have support out of the box or if trophies will be patched in at a later date. Trophies are nice and all, but even I wouldn’t buy something I didn’t want for trophies. I might be a trophy whore, but that’s going a little too far.
