It looks like Capcom have been hard at work giving the fans something cool in PlayStation Home. The Japanese developer are adding a slew of Street Fighter costumes into Sony’s social service as well as Resident Evil 5 costumes and an RE 5 themed game space. Little is known about these add-on’s as of yet, but i’m sure they’ll sell if they’re not overpriced (of course, the game space is free). I wonder if they’ll chuck in a zombie themed mini game? I hope so. More on this when we get the info.

The day has finally arrived, Sony are letting the great unwashed (sorry) get their grubby mitts on PlayStation Home, almost a year and eight months after it was announced at GDC 2007. Sony have announced that the ‘open beta’ for the service will be launching and available to everyone as of December 11th 2008 (that’s tomorrow, if you wern’t paying attention). Users will, apparently, not need to download a new firmware update and more content will be added, such as, the Far Cry 2 game room and clothing from Diesel. Home Out By 17th?

The official word from Sony has always been that Home would make it out before the end of 2008, and personally I hope it does. The rumor has been flying around the interwebs that Sony will launch their new service on the 17th of this month. Sweet.

Joystiq have contacted Sony who did not confirm or deny the rumor, but stuck to their guns and continue to profess that Home will make it out before the end of this year.

I think the 17th seems pretty reasonable, I can’t see why it wouldn’t make it out soon. Only 5 days to wait and see people, let’s hope the rumors are true.

Free Stuff For Home Closed Beta Users

PlayStation Home was down earlier today, Sony’s people on both sides of the pond decided it was time to let the closed beta users test out some nice microtransactions. Sony have decided to treat closed beta users with some free stuff. Including sofas and shirts, very nice indeed.

Sony have said that these will carry over into the open beta, which is nice. They have also assured those who’re not in the beta that these items will be cheap-ish when they’re finally released to the masses. Nice of them, I

certainly hope those of us in the closed beta get some more free stuff, that would definitely be cool Sony.

Sony’s first third party partner within Home has been revealed. It is being reported that energy drink Red Bull will have it’s own space within Home and will be dedicated to the annual Red Bull Air Race and apparently the space will contain

“an aeroplane racing game based on Red Bull’s real world Red Bull Air Race series.”

It sounds a little sketchy, but it’s free so that’s cool. Hit the jump to see what ,Red Bull UK’s brand marketing manager, John Beasley had to say. (more…)

For those of you lucky to be in the beta for PlayStation Home, i’ve got some good news for you. Home version 1.0 is being released tomorrow (November 20th). This has come from Tawkin.com, who also say that there’s going to be two new batches of invitations sent out in the coming weeks. This information has apparently come from the official beta forums for the service, but as we cannot confirm the information it remains a rumor. The ammount of information released makes us think that this could be legit though. Rather than type up the massive ammount of info available I have chosen to upload the screen grabs from Tawkin. They’re in the gallery below.

PlayStation ‘Hub’ Anyone?

Sony’s Jamie McDonald has been talking about Home recently and revealed it wasn’t always known as Home, internally it was called ‘Hub’. When asked how Sony went from ‘Hub’ to Home Jamie had this to say:

To be honest I really can’t remember how we came to the word “Home”. I do recall us all thinking that it works, and works on lots of different levels – “Let’s go home” – and Home is where you start from and go back to. And people talk about having a “Homepage”.

I like Home more than Hub, it just sounds nicer.

Sony have today corrected their ad for the 6th episode of their ‘online magazine’ Qore. Originally it was said that one off purchasers of the episode would be able to get into the closed beta for Home. This is now not the case, the invites are available to subscribers only. I am not a Qore subscriber and was looking forward to picking up the 6th episode for the beta. Hit the jump to see what Sony had to say. (more…)

Annual subscribers and one off purchasers of Sony’s $2 downloadable online magazine thing Qore will be glad to know that Novembers ‘issue’ will include access to the Home closed beta. This is definitely going to get people to finally buy Qore and I for one will be picking it up too.

I do think that us Europeans will get something similar (possibly from Eurogamer?) but i’m not taking my chances and will be getting Qore when it releases in two weeks.

More Third Party Home Support

[By Anthony]

Capcom have announced they’ll be one of the first third party developers to support PlayStation Home when it suposedly launches this year. Four videos have been released via GameTrailers that show Capcom favourites Chun Li and Chris Redfield running around in Sony’s virtual space, as well as some GT5 racing pods for your space and a virtual version of Sony’s TGS booth.

Due to the limitations of WordPress I can’t post GameTrailers videos. So you’ll have to jump over to PS3Fanboy to check them out.

Home Beta Early For Qore Subscribers?

A comment on the PS Blog seems to have revealed something about the beta for Home. Ken Furuichi hinted at the possibility of allowing Qore subscribers into the expanded closed beta for the service.

“We’re working on this for the current Extended Closed Beta. We are trying to get you guys [Qore subscribers] into Home before the official public beta. We hope to have more information in about two weeks.”

Although I love the concept of Home, paying $24.99 for it is a little much

Home, Firmware 2.50 Coming Next Month Says Home Manager

A PS3 Fanboy tipster sent in the above image from the Home Beta forums. The Home manager ‘TedTheDog’ said that Home and PS3 Firmware 2.50 will be coming in October. The beta currently has a bug which freezes PS3 systems and causes unknown network errors. ‘Ted’ responded with this:

“2.5 is what we’re waiting for and ‘October’ is what I’ve heard, later October is my guess.”

The post also says that the firmware will be released alongside version 1.00 of Home will also be released in October. With the possible release of 2.50 and Home could it be the worldwide roll out of home? It certainly looks that way.

The PS Blog has also updated saying that the Home beta will be expanding very soon. With the continued expansion of the beta it looks even more likely that we’re going to see the long awaited release of Sony’s premier social networking service.

Having just read this i’m wondered what the hell this game is. Edge Of Twilight is apparently a game being developed in Australia by developer FuzzyEyes. The game is not due out until next year but the devs recently had an interview with GameSpot where they talked about cool things like trophies and Home. Hit the jump for more.

During the interview with GameSpot the guys mentioned that trophy support would be included when the game launches next year and also that they hoped to include some content in Sony’s Home service. You can check out the interview here.
