Earlier this week Activision announced that fans would be able to purchase a 3-pack of songs by Las Vegas based band, The Killers. However, they never said it was an exclusive deal. It has also been revealed that Harmonix too have a deal with Brandon Flowers’ band. Hit the jump for more. (more…)

I am a massive Oasis fan (unlike some of our editors) and I was glad to see that Oasis’ new album is going to be released as DLC. It’s just a shame that it’s for the new Guitar Hero rather than Rock Band. I am going to be getting the game, but i’d just prefer it to be on Rock Band. I don’t know why, I just would. Hit the jump for more. (more…)

It has been revealed today via Shacknews that Activision’s upcoming Rock Band rip off rhythm game Guitar Hero: World Tour will be getting a patch shortly after the game launches in November. The patch will add a MIDI sequencer to the game which can only be fully realized on Sony’s system. The sequencer will encompass bass, lead and rhythm guitar as well as a drum and keyboard tracks and will be limited to just drum tracks on the Xbox 360. Hit the jump for more. (more…)

Guitar Hero World Tour, some consider it the Rock Band killer (such as myself), some are looking forward to the new drums, some for the great track list, and some are just Guitar Hero fiends. So far Guitar Hero World Tour has a pretty good set list, but honestly, I like the On-Disc set list for Rock Band a little more (other then the fact the Guitar Hero has Van Halen which is going to be awesome). Here is the near-complete set list for Guitar Hero World Tour. Hit the jump. (more…)

Yesterday Rolling Stone magazine revealed 10 new songs that would be appearing in Activision’s forthcoming game ‘Guitar Hero: World Tour’. There’s some pretty cool stuff in here and Manchester is being represented by The Stone Roses which is always nice to see. Hit the jump for the list.

Along with NPH Sting, Activision also announced four new songs that would be appearing in Guitar Hero: World Tour. With the ammount of Rock Band songs on offer not alot about Guitar Hero’s setlist excites me (except Hendrix). Hit the jump for more. (more…)

It has today been confirmed that Neil Patrick Harris, star of hit U.S. sitcom How I Met Your Mother, will be appearing as a playable character. Wait, what? That’s not NPH? Oops, sorry about that it turns out that it’s not NPH, it’s someone else. Hit the jump to find out who it is.

Earlier in the week it was announced that all of the forthcoming instruments for Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour would be compatible with oneanohter. At their Leipzig press conference today Activision announced that the original Rock Band drums would work with their new game.
Kotaku’s Mike Fahey spoke with Activision’s Brian Bright after the conference who explained how the Rock Band drums would work with the new Guitar Hero game. I had my doubts that they would work because of the ammount of pads on the World Tour drums compared to the Rock Band ones. Either way it has been announced that they will be compatible which is sweet for me. I’ll let Mr. Fahey explain after the jump. (more…)

Activision’s merger with, well…almost everyone seems to have made them really, really competetive. For weeks and weeks now we have heard about Guitar Hero getting so and so exclusive and stuff like that and to be honest I couldn’t stand it. All of their exclusive artists seem really cool and often i’m left thinking “that would be cool if it was in Rock Band”. I hate exclusives in music games, it’d be like iTunes getting the new [insert popular recording artist] album and no one else being able to buy it. Think about it, it would suck. This is something shared by Harmonix’s Eric Brosious who said this in an interview with IGN.
We prefer not to sign exclusive deals with artists because while it seems like the competitive “business” thing to do, in the long run, it’s really not good for anyone. We think we should be working to get more music out to more people.
That’s what i’d like to see, more honesty within the games industry. Good on ya mate!

There were rumors flying around recently about playable characters in Activision’s Guitar Hero: World Tour, now we’ve got some confirmation. Ozzy will be apearing in the game as will guitarist Zakk Wylde and a virtual Ozzfest venue. Not only this but the ex-sabbath frontman will also be contributing two songs to the game: ‘Mr. Crowley’ and ‘Crazy Train’.
USA Today’s Mike Snieder chatted with Ozzy just before this years Ozzfest kicked off. The interview is below.
Q: So you are going to be in a video game?
A: Yeah. I’ve been involved with it for quite a while. They (Activision) liked my music and I have a big young following, I’ve been told. I’m from the old school. I don’t own a computer. I just got an iPod that I’ve organized. I have got to learn how to turn it on. That’s about it, you know. I can’t download. I can’t do any load.
Q: So it’s really you in the game, right?
A: I had to put on this black suit with all these little ping-pong ball-like things all over me, motion capture. I had to dance around like I’m on stage when one of my songs are on. I don’t really know how it works, but I have seen a run of it. It is really interesting. The image of me, I wish I had the energy it has. The graphics are really, really good.
Q: What do you think of these video games as a way for music lovers to interact with music?
A: The music thing is OK, but there are so many other video games. Like I went “wow” at the one with carjacking and all of that. Some desensitize kids, you know. It’s a changing time. Of course, I used to see horror films when I was a kid and to lie that you were over 16 to get in.
My son Jack, he won’t return your call. You have to text him. I have a cellphone, but I can’t say I’m in love with the thing. You have to be pretty bright to keep up with the changes, and just when you learn something, it’s time to learn something else.
Q: Do you see video games as a good way for musicians to get their music heard?
A: I guess it is. The download epidemic has killed record sales. It’s kind of like the new thing to do, I suppose, because it’s one way of getting your music to kids and keeps the tours going. I used to make a record, and more or less it would sell a million and it would go a while, you know. Now, it’s like you get 750,000 or 800,000 and it slows down. For every one you sell, 10 get downloaded. But it’s technology. You ain’t gonna stop it now.
Q: Anything new you can tell me about your upcoming Osbournes’ TV project (a six-episode hourlong variety show on Fox)?
A: There’s a word that scares me a little (used to describe the new show), the word “variety.” If we do a Christmas show, believe me, I’m not going to be sitting at a cozy fire with a scarf on and singing, “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.” I’m making that perfectly clear right now. I’m not singing any (crappy) little f—-ing Christmas songs.
It’s kind of like an unscripted (thing). I hope it turns out because Mama, Sharon, is kind of the TV person. She said it would be great if we could all get back together and put this thing on. You know what? OK. We nearly lost her a few years ago when she had cancer. So her passion is for TV. She loves it, so we all love it with her, you know. But I’m not going to become the weatherman or the next Larry King. I’m just going to check it out.
Q: Can you say anything about next year’s Ozzfest? (This year’s is a one-off concert with Metallica and System of a Down Saturday in Dallas).
A: I guess my wife has a plan up her sleeve. There will be something next year. I think it will be the Ozzfest again, back to normal (a multi-date tour). But I don’t know at this point.
Q: Anything else in the works?
A: I am recording another album soon. I’ve got a Pro Tools machine downstairs in my house now, which I record from home now. I can’t turn the f——ing thing on. (Laughs). It’s like the brain of the house. But when you have somebody who knows what they are doing, it’s so easy to make records now, it’s not even funny.
The art of making records is somewhat diminishing. It’s taking the passion out of it. But I will try to give it as much real me as I can. There’s so many tricks I can use.
I want to make two albums. Make one and go out on that one, and make another one and go out on that. Time is very valuable to me now. I’m 60 this December. It does not seem 10 years since I was 50. It really doesn’t. My mission now is to do as much as I can.
So that was Ozzy Osbourne chatting to USA Today then. It’s pretty cool that Ozzy’s in the game hopefully we’ll get some more big names confirmed soon.

Well here we go Activision have released the box art for their upcoming “Complete Band Game”, Guitar Hero: World Tour. As you can see Activision are making it perfectly clear to consumers that this game has more than just guitars in it. Well thought out Activision I still won’t be buying the bundle though (pictured above).

It looked nice but was all fake. Still I don’t think even that could beat Rock Band 2’s list. There were some real songs in there but most of them were good guesses. I don’t think Harmonix would want to share songs like ‘Everlong’ and ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ (coming as DLC) because they’re awesome and good exclusives. Hey i’m getting the game so I hope there’s a decent confirmed setlist coming.

In order to keep up with Guitar Hero’s recent peripheral changes Harmonix have responded by providing Rock Band players to purchase a wireless drum kit. I personally will not be buying these drums (i won’t be buying any more drums) I assume that they’ll replace the wired ones when Rock Band 2 releases in September. I presume there’ll be a new bundle then? It’s EA so yeah it’s almost a guarantee.
The drums have been given a tentative date of September 14th. Could this possibly be when the game releases? (for 360 at least
)
