Is this, extremely poor quality, video (above) the first look at Dead Rising 2. It was sort of confirmed a week or so ago in Famitsu and now we see this video emerge on YouTube. Here’s hoping this is real, it definitely looks it.

We’re getting unconfirmed reports that the, thought to be doomed, developer Free Radical may, in fact, be safe after all. 1Up are reporting that the studio has been bought by none other than CryTek, developers of the original Far Cry and most recently Crysis. This is great news for the Nottingham based studio, that is if it’s true. Here’s hoping it is, they need to redeem themselves after Haze.

A recent post on Media Molecule’s Flikr page seems to have revealed what the company expect to add to the game in the coming weeks and months. The picture above shows some kind of board which contains details of upcoming expansions to LittleBigPlanet. Those mentioned include the ‘Arcade Pack’ and something named ‘2000 BC’ both of which have TBC next to them. Other things mentioned are ‘legal’ (photo importing perhaps) and a patch which is said to bring “new creative capabilities”. Hopefully this wasn’t just a tease from MM. God how we love you and the ever expanding LittleBigPlanet.

The word on the street is (who am I Huggy Bear?) that Tekken 6 will have exclusive downloadable content on the PS3. With the Xbox 360 getting a hold of Sony’s, once exclusive, fighting game franchise it seems only right that Namco Bandai reward more ‘loyal’ fans. Who knows if this is true, although knowing the allegience the devs have to Sony it dosen’t seem too unlikely. Hopefully we’ll here more about this soon.

It looks like the Paradise City police have finally caught on to all the racing that goes in in the city they’re supposed to “protect and serve”. Some footage has appeared on the internet presumably showing a police chase of sorts occuring within Paradise City, leading people to suggest that ‘Pursuit Mode’ will be coming back to Burnout via a patch or DLC. You can see that the something regarding police appeared on the Burnout store in the ‘Ultimate Box’ trailer (see the gallery at the bottom of this post) as well as images of a cop car, one of which tops this post.
It’s Friday “i’m in love”, so maybe we’ll get the skinny from Criterion today. Sounds good though, if what’s being said is right I hope we see it soon.

It looks like Sony (and Microsoft) could be taking another exclusive here. It has been rumored that upcoming, black and white, Wii action game Mad World could be coming to ‘current-gen’ consoles. The game has been denied classification in Australia (like every game and their dog), but what people have noticed is it clearly notes that MadWorld is for the PS3 and 360 too. Of course this could be a mistake, but with the economy down the swanny it makes sense. It actually looks alright (not enough to make me buy a Wii, nothing will do that) but i’d be interested if it made it’s way onto a proper console.

Being a dedicated Sony guy, I never played the original Mass Effect and I’m pretty bummed having not. There seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel thouh. Secondstorygamer has a nice little bit of ‘news’ on Mass Effect coming to PS3. I personally thought the suseqent sequels would appear on the PS3 due to EA’s purchase of BioWare last year and looking at this rumor it seems this could be the case. Not only that SSG’s source also apparently said it was “likely” that EA would port the original game to allow PS3 owners who didn’t play the first (like me) a chance to catch up on the story of the games. This is apparently going to be announced at GDC (which starts 23rd March). Here’s hoping it’s true this is something else that could even the odds in terms of the PS3 vs. 360.

Game Informer are reporting that a new GTA (presumably GTA V) will be out before Christmas 2009. PSU has quoted the magazine, saying:
“We’re not talking about new DLC or a collection of previously available DLC, we’re talking about a full retail game. We expect this title to follow the suit of previous GTAs and use a subtitle such as GTA: San Andreas, etc. Tokyo might be a possible setting for the game, but details are non-existent at this time.”
I think Tokyo would be a good place for GTA to head and would definitely sure up the Japanese market. Vice City was out a year after GTA III, so it is possible for Rockstar to do it. If they are (or will) is another question entirely.

It loooks like another zombie based ‘360 exclusive’ could be making it’s way to PS3. A forum poster on N4G.com has gotten himself a ‘pre-order card’ (seen here) from American retailer Best Buy for the game on PS3. Of course this isn’t confirmation, but with the ammount of rumor (and demand) for the game how can this not be being made or in Valve’s plans? Come on Valve ship it out to EA and have done with it, us PS3 owners NEED this game.
Best Buy was seen advertising Final Fantasy VII on PS3 though, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

It looks like us here in Europe might be getting a Killzone 2 PS3 bundle. The rumor is that the bundle contains an 80GB PS3, one DualShock 3 controller and a copy of the game, so pretty standard really. I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t real, especially with all those people getting the console for this game. If this is real it’s a good bit of Killzone 2 marketing for Sony.

[By Anthony]
Older PlayStation 3 consoles play PS2 games, newer ones don’t. I have often wordered why Sony took this feature away from those who adopted their black box of joy late, now it seems they might be putting it back in.
The rumor comes from none other than NeoGaf. User Meph apparently spoke to a Sony representative about the issue with backwards compatability and was told that Sony may be willing to buy PS2 emulation software from a third party.
Of course there is no evidence to back up Meph’s claim, but it dosen’t seem too unlikely. I know a lot of people who’d love to see Sony put this back in, if only for games like Persona 4.
Another one we’ll have to wait and see on. It’d be nice if Sony were to do it though.

Whilst porousing the internet at this ungodly hour, I stumbled upon something rather interesting. Scrawlfx.com have alerted me to the fact that a demo for EA/Black Box’s sequel to 2007’s inovative skateboarding title, Skate, is coming before January 8th.
The site links to Xbox.com (blasphemy) and their ‘Download & Win’ section. Basically the article on there talks about an upcoming competition involving Skate 2. The competition is to be entered between the 8th and 15th of January, meaning the demo will be out before the first date.
Well, i’ve personally been looking forward to getting a hands on with Skate 2 and it looks like i’ll get my chance soon enough, as will everyone else.

Ok so for our first BIG (and I mean big) rumor since we’ve returned is a pretty damn good one. Capcom’s John Diamonon hinted at something potentially cool. In his most recent post (which can be seen here) he writes:
Oh yeah, there’s also a big (sentence deleted by Capcom and SCEA PR ninjas)….Can you believe it? Wow, how can you not be excited about that? I’m just glad that I was finally able to talk about it. It’s been a long time coming but I’m ecstatic that it’s actually going to happen.
Now of course this actually means nothing, although when a commenter asked:
I must say that it is awesome that you announced Dead Rising for the PSN, right?
To which John replied:
Who announced it? Me? I don’t think so!
Well, because of the smiley face the internet has exploded with speculation that Dead Rising is, in fact, finally going to be released on PS3 and possibly via the PlayStation Store. Hopefully this is true, i’ve been waiting to get my hands on that game for a while. come on Capcom do the right thing.

[By Anthony]
Now this is a little unexpected. It seems that, music legend, Roy Orbison will be making his way into Rock Band/Rock Band 2. CMT (Country Music Television) have let it slip, when advertising their Boxing Day show ‘Top 20 Countdown’, that, well, here’s the quote.
“Plus, get details on how you can rock out with The Soul of Rock and Roll with the upcoming release of the Roy Orbison Pack for Rock Band 2 consoles”.
There is a pretty big Rock Band ad next to the piece and seeing as CMT is an MTV channnel and MTV games publish Rock Band, this seems pretty likely. Unexpected, but there’s a possibility of awesomeness. Bring on ‘I Drove All Night’!

[By Anthony]
It might be Christmas time but the gaming news (and rumors) keep coming in. The Hip Hop Gamer Show is reporting that BioShock 2 could be a timed exclusive for the PS3. The guys are reporting that Take 2 have gained the most profit from PS3 sales this year, swinging the timed exclusivity in Sony’s favour. This sounds cool and all, but how credible is the source? Having never really watched the show before, I can’t tell you. If this is true though, it’s huge.
There’s already a backlash on the HHGS website from 360 fanboys, which is always nice to see. Please keep in mind that this is a rumor, albeit a nice sounding one.
