Today Battlefield developers announced they are to release a new add on map pack this autum, the pack will contain 4 maps, and here’s the best part, you get to decide on 2 maps from the single player game get the multiplayer treatment.  A vote is being held for on the official webiste and the developers will decide on a further 2 themselves.  Personally I’ve been hoping for an updated Wake Island as it has appeared it pretty much every Battlefield game released, but it is good to see DICE supporting the title.  You don’t have much time as the vote ends on the 2nd of September so to register your votes follow the link

StarWars: the force unleashed demo impressions

[By Steve M]

I’m a huge Star Wars fan! there I’ve said it, I’ve come out of the closet and admited my most guilty pleasure.  I can’t get enough of light saber duels, starship battles, Wookies, bad acting and Princess Lea in her space hooker outfit from Return of the Jedi.  There I feel good for saying it, will I feel good after a run through of Lucasarts PS3 demo for SW:TFU? Well join with me my young Padawans and lets find out. (more…)

LBP Will Allow Multiple PS3 Profiles In Local Multiplayer

I have no idea if this has been announced yet, but on Tursday IGN’s Chris Roper announced that LittleBigPlanet would support multiple Sackboy’s on different PSN accounts in local multiplayer. I don’t think Roper would’ve announced this on the podcast if it wasn’t true so i’m pretty sure it is.

Like I said I have no idea if this has been confirmed or announced or anything but it definitely is cool for people with multiple people on their PS3’s (like me), who want to play with different people on different PSN accounts in local multiplayer.

Hopefully this’ll be intergrated into more PS3 games in the future.

Original Content

I have noticed for a while now that XeNonX is lacking original content. We do our own impressions (when we can) and have in the past got the latest scoop on some things but I still think that the blog is missing something. That something is original content.

Well i’m on a mission to fix that. I have a couple of things in the works that will hopefully bring some more original content to the blog and give XeNonX it’s own personality, something that’s not usually seen when reporting news stories.

I would like to hear the toughts of the community (and my fellow editors) on the subject. I hope this is the start of something really cool for XeNonX.

New PSP To Support DualShock 3 & 480i?

[By Anthony]

According to a ‘ Best Buy insider’ the new PSP model, PSP-3000, is going to support some really rather cool things. Until now i’ve not reall paid any attention to the new PSP and just passed it off as just another iteration on what I already have, but this ‘insider’ has made my ears prick up.

The insider has said that the new PSP won’t just be slightly more streamlined, have a built in mic and have a better screen it will have support for your DualShock 3 and the TV-out feature will now output 480i instead of the 480p that it supports now.

Although the DualShock 3 thing sounds cool and would make the PSP control better it does sound a little unlikely as it would probably mean developers adapting their games to support this control.

Either way, i’m hoping that it’s true and that it can work but it seems quite unlikely. I’ve not upgraded my PSP from the the original fat system so I might pick one of these up…eventually.

Whilst people are voting for the Resistance 2 cover art it looks like the European art is already confirmed. Does that look familiar to you? (image above). Yes it’s the 3rd special edition cover I told you to vote on. According to ThreeSpeech that is the Resistance 2 cover art for Europe. Sweet, that’s the one I really liked.

I wonder what the U.S. standard edition will look like then?

Home Hitting Asia In “Fall 2008″

The wait is over, for gamers in Asia at least. Sony announced today that they would be rolling out Home in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan in “Fall 2008″. This is not a rumor it has come directly from a Sony press release. To help make sure everything is ready for the people in those territories there’ll be an open beta, ahead of the launch, in September.

This seems like a step in the right direction so hopefully western gamers will be seeing Home shortly too.

Rush Is NOT Your Rock Band DLC This Week.

Due to “unforseen complications” Harmonix have not added Rush’s album ‘Moving Pictures’ to the list of Rock Band DLC this week. It looks like it might take a few weeks to get it sorted so in order to not dissapoint Rock Band fans Harmonix have put some DLC from Brooklyn based band Locksley. I’ve never heard of them, but i’ll check ‘em out.

PlayStation Store Update (29.08.08)

[By Anthony]

I’m combining the two stores this week for sheer practicality because there’s nothing on them! What is there is cool though. Oh yeah, i’m only gonna be posting game content for now the rest of the stuff is usually pointless anyway.

European Store:

  • The Last Guy – £4.99
  • The Last Guy Demo – Free!
  • NHL 09 Demo – Free!
  • Buzz: Jungle Junior Pack – £3.49
  • WarHawk: Fallen Star Add-On Pack – £3.99

US Store:

  • The Last Guy – $9.99
  • NHL 09 Demo – Free!
  • Soul Calibur 4 Demo – Free!
  • WarHawk: Fallen Star Add-On Pack – $7.99
  • WarHawk Booster Combo – $15.99
  • Rock Band DLC – Locksley – ‘She Does’, ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’, ‘All Over Again’ – $0.99 each or $2.99 for the pack.

Like I said, not much there but what’s there is very good. I might pick up ‘The Last Guy’ at a later date and will probably do the same with the WarHawk DLC. I’m skint! (meaning no money for non British readers). Yes the Rock Band DLC has changed. Rush’s album ‘Moving Pictures’ was meant to be this week’s DLC but there was complications so Harmonix put up this Locksley stuff instead, nice of ‘em.

New PSN Card Info

Personally I can’t wait for PSN cards to hit major stores in the US. It was revealed that GameStop aren’t gonna be getting them until 2009 and there is a few stores that stock them, but there’s not enough. Sony have been quick to try and quash claims that this pre-paid card system is failing by announcing three new stockists. Said stockists will be Blockbuster, 7-eleven and Riteaid.

Hopefully this increase in the ammount of places that sell the cards will mean ebay prices will go down. It’ll be a lot easier for me to buy Rock Band DLC. Hopefully this means i’ll be able to get some from New York in January too.

Itagaki Praises The PS3 – I Think

[By Anthony]

Former Techmo genius Tomonobu Itagaki was interviewed by 1Up earlier this week and well he talked about loads of stuff, most importantly he talked about the PS3. Well, he sorta did.

One more thing I would add is that I don’t think that developing for the PS3 is hard at all. It was much harder developing for the Famicom. It’s true. I mean, give someone who’s developing for the PS3 a Famicom and see if they can make a game for it. They won’t be able to. Yeah, that’ll prove it. We’ll bet a drink on it.

He’s betting drinks? I’m in!

I really don’t know how to take this, is it a compliment or an insult? I can’t decide. Either way it’s nice to hear Itagaki talking about the PS3, he hates ‘Ninja Gaiden Sigma’ y’know.

Play Afrika In A Japanese Hotel Near You! – Or Not

Afrika, Sony’s safari-em-up, is being released in Japan this week and to promote the game they’re putting the game in hotel rooms. The Excel Hotel Tokyu in Haneda is running an Afrika themed promotion to help Sony promote their game, presumably to the mass market. Guests will get to check the game out on a massive screen to add to the virtual safari going experience.

Seems a little unessecary to me, although the game looks pretty cool. I do hope it gets released over here i’d like to check it out.

Sony today announced that the people of Europe (like myself) will be getting two new PlayStation 3 bundles this autumn. The best of the two bundles will be dropping on the 10th of the month and will include an 80GB console, two DualShock 3 controllers and a copy of the highly acclaimed ‘Gran Turismo 5: Prologue’. Hit the jump for the other bundle and another snazzy box image.

Sony Like To Provide Services For Free – Thanks
August 29, 2008, 12:14 am
Filed under: Gaming News | Tags: , ,

Sony’s PSN (PlayStation Network) is free and I, like many others, like it that way. Sony seem to know this and today Shuhei Yoshida has explained to GamesIndustry.biz Sony’s view on providing very good services free of charge.

We like to provide as many services as possible for free — we already provide our network access for gameplay for free — and the interesting thing about the network side and the Internet business is that there’s a variety of revenue sources. Not necessarily getting people to pay, but with advertising and so on.

Those are things we’re looking at, and learning how we can provide a service without people having to pay — but we still get our operation running with funding from somewhere so that we can maintain the level of quality we want.

It’s nice to see Sony trying (and in my opinion succeeding) to give gamers a great, free experience. They never mention ‘Quore’ do they? Ah well they’ve got to make $3 a month from somewhere.

6 New Full Albums Announced For Rock Band 2

[By Anthony]

I can’t wait for Rock Band 2 and this announcement has me even more excited. Today Harmonix announced SIX new downloadable albums coming for Rock Band 2. Now you might be thinking that of these 6 albums one or two will be good, but actually they’re all pretty sweet. I mean I don’t like them all but they’re all from pretty well known artists, so I guess that’s a big plus. Hit the jump for the list.
