Another Cover Change For EA?

It looks like EA could have another problem with one of their sports covers. This time with one of the cover stars on the North American version of FIFA 09 (image above).

The cover star in question is young up and coming USA and Toronto FC player Maurice Edu. XeNonX has learnt that there is some speculation about Edu’s future and that it is possible that the player could transfer to Scottish team Glasgow Rangers (for a fee of around £2.5m if anyone’s interested). More after the jump. (more…)

Madden Cover Wrong, EA Says Print Your Own

EA had a bit of bad luck recently (Madden curse?) when it was revealed that Brett Favre would be coming out of retirement again and would be playing for the New York Jets. Favre was the cover-’boy’ of EA’s exremely popular American football game Madden NFL 09 and was wearing his Green Bay Packers (the team he played for pre-retirement) jersey. EA have now released another official cover for the game featuring Favre in a Jets uniform, which users have to print off or get printed themselves.

I personally feel that EA should have issued the covers to gamers rather than them having to print it out. I wonder if the next batch of the game will have the new or old cover?

New Puzzle Quest PSN Stuff

It’s not just the ESRB that can leak stuff ya know, PEGI can too. The UK ratings bored for all things video games (well them and the BBFC) have provided us with a little bit more info on the highly addictive puzzler, Puzzle Quest. Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords – Revenge Of The Plague Lord (is that a new, longer name?) is the full title of the game and PEGI have confirmed that the game will be a PSN download. It was to be expected really. It would’ve been like throwing money away not to release this game on the PSN, especially with the great reception it’s had from critics and gamers alike.

With the game being rated I can see it being announced very soon (Leipzig maybe?) as it will have been finished, or at least a good portion of it will. Another game that’s highly anticipated by me as I could never find a copy of the PSP version, I guess i’ll wait now then.

I’ve embeded a video (top of post) from the XBLA version, which the PSN version is likely to be a port of.

With a demo for Vampire Rain hitting the Japanese PSN, and having nothing else to do on a wet and miserable Saturday afternoon I thought I’d give it a run through, not only that i thought I’d share my findings with you as i go, so what exactly is involved with Vampire Rain? i hear you ask, well I’ve no idea and with only mild curiosity I’ll endeavour to find out.

Harmonix Doesn’t Like Exclusive Artist Deals

Activision’s merger with, well…almost everyone seems to have made them really, really competetive. For weeks and weeks now we have heard about Guitar Hero getting so and so exclusive and stuff like that and to be honest I couldn’t stand it. All of their exclusive artists seem really cool and often i’m left thinking “that would be cool if it was in Rock Band”. I hate exclusives in music games, it’d be like iTunes getting the new [insert popular recording artist] album and no one else being able to buy it. Think about it, it would suck. This is something shared by Harmonix’s Eric Brosious who said this in an interview with IGN.

We prefer not to sign exclusive deals with artists because while it seems like the competitive “business” thing to do, in the long run, it’s really not good for anyone. We think we should be working to get more music out to more people.

That’s what i’d like to see, more honesty within the games industry. Good on ya mate!

Bionic Commando Hits The European PS Store (What?)

On Thursday Capcom’s highly anticipated downloadable title, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, hit the PlayStation Store in America. I bought this version thinking that i’d have the game for at least a few weeks before it made it’s way over to Europe. That, surprisingly, wasn’t the case, the game was put up on the European PSN yesterday! Capcom seem to have been able to get their game released outside the regular PlayStation Store update which is strange because it often seems Sony don’t care about their European audience, but maybe the times are changing.

Either way the game got released in Europe yesterday for £6.99, go download it now!

Godfather II Debut Trailer

Earlier this week EA held an event and showcased some of their upcoming titles. One of these was Godfather II. From what i’ve heard and read this game isn’t shaping up too bad and it looks like EA have gotten their act together to make this game better than it’s predecessor. EA have just released the debut trailer for the game and i’ve gotta say, it’s looking good.

The trailer shows a little of the ‘Dons View’ feature that I was a little wary off but after seeing it (even if it was breif) it looks like it might work quite well. What do you guys think? The game will be shipping in Feburary 2009 on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Final Fantasy XIII Demo Will Be 90 Minutes Long

It was revealed today that the Final Fantasy XIII Demo, revealed at that Square Enix event a few weeks ago, would be 90 minutes long. A poster over at NeoGaf seems to have some of the details from this week’s Famitsu, said details are after the jump. (more…)

Legendary Dated For September 30th

Now it’s not very often that something slips me by, but this is a game that has. Legendary, a first person shooter set in modern day New York, see’s you fighting mythalogical creatures after a theif named Charles Deckhard opens Pandora’s Box. You play as the aformentioned Charles Deckhard trying to save the earth from this invasion of ‘legendary’ creatures.

So there’s what I found out about the game and, to be honest, the concept seems flawed and something I personally will not be interested in.

Anyway, it was announced earlier today that the game would be shipping (in the US anyway) at the end of September or more specifically September 30th.

New Ratchet & Clank In 2009

Thanks to the guys over at PS3 Fanboy for this one. The image you see above is apparently a tease from Insomniac found at the end of the new downloadable Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty. The image hints that there will be a fully fledged Ratchet & Clank title coming out in Fall (Read: Autumn) 2009.

Sweet, I really love the Ratchet series and any news on a new title is great.

Next Week In Rock Band – Duran Duran!

After a few weeks of what I would deem ‘crappy’ tracks Harmonix have pulled their finger out and will be providing some decent tracks for Rock Band owners next week. Harmonix are providing us with some classic 80’s stuff and best of all there’s two tracks from Duran Duran!

The full tracklist is below:

  • ‘Rio’ – Duran Duran
  • ‘Girls On Film’ – Duran Duran
  • ‘Girl U Want’ – Devo (New Original Recording)
  • ‘Through Being Cool’ – Devo (New Original Recording)
  • ‘Get Your Rock On’ – The Janitors

This is awesome news. I haven’t heard the tracks from the other artists, but they sound cool so i’ll have to check em out.

Good news for Star Wars fans raring to get your hands on Darth Vaders latest prodigy’s saber, as during the latest episode of GT.TV it was officially announced that a demo for Star wars: The Force Unleashed would be available on both the PSN and on XBL on the 21st of August.  Word is the demo is of the substantial veriety and involves you off on a mission for to take down a Jedi, no mean feat i’m sure, also from what i hear its a stand alone demo so the mission will not appear in the full game.  Personally looking forward to trying this one out, so if the mood takes me i’ll get back to you with some updated impressions.

Hoping for a ps3 price cut? the man from sony he say no

Anyone holding off on purchaseing a shiny new PS3 untill it reaches a more wallet friendly price might have to wait a little longer.  Speaking to Reuters, Sony spokesman Nick Caplin had this to say on the subject of a price cut announcement at Leipzig this coming week.

“It’s not going to happen. If you’re coming for that you’ll be disappointed,”

With the PS3 beating Microsofts Xbox 360 in US sales over July, even with the 360 receiving its own price drop, its momentum is continuing through the summer, I suspect Sony will want one more holiday season at its current price point and are gambling on its upcoming titles to push the system through to the end of the  year.
