Motorstorm: Pacific Rift might be a really big exclusive for PS3 owners this year, but personally I can’t see why. I hated the original game, it was too damn frustrating to be an arcade racer and too arcadey to be a sim. They didn’t seem to get the balance right, well that’s my opinion.

As a PS3 writer i’m obviously going to feature it and guess what there’s some new screens just been released. Apparently these are concept art, but hopefully they’ll shed some light on what your likely to see in the sequel.
For those who are interested in my opinions then I will be having a hands on with the game at the end of the month, so look out for my impressions then.

Yes Skate 2 is coming out and this is another sequel i’m really looking forward to. I think that the Tony Hawk series has pretty much run it’s course and now that the Birdman has taken a year off I think it’s time that people embraced EA’s Skate series as the new best in the business.
Earlier this week EA released a trailer for the game (above) and it’s looks really good. The graphics look sweet they’ve added some new features and trick types whilst still keeping that great down to earth , gritty look that the original game had.
There’s no word on a demo yet but this is EA and they put demos out for everything so I think we’ll see one before the game is released. I currently have no news on a release date yet but i think you can expect it around October/November time if not early next year.

Now to a lot of people a demo of a game isn’t a big deal, but for me a FIFA 09 demo is a BIG deal. I will be playing the game in a matter of days (like many people at M Festival) but for those who can’t get down or can’t get enough of the footy action the demo is coming to the PS Store and XBL on September 11th. Whoot!
Just to let you know that is the box art for the Americas and the European cover will more than likely feature Wayne Rooney again.

The way people were talking about this made it sound like a download from the PSN but no it’s a patch, a patch that adds a new mode to Battlefield: BC too. Now I like Battlefield but from what i’ve heard about this mode it sounds quite a lot like the ‘Gold Rush’ mode already on the disc. I will check it out but to be honest after single player is done it looks like BF is getting the trade in treatment.
Either way people, download the patch now! Well you’ll have to anyway if you wanna play the game.

Well I wanted something good outta Sony this week but I guess this’ll have to do. The European store this weak was crap and, although there’s more content on the U.S. store it’s still a pretty mediocre week for Sony. Well here you go a list of stuff you (mostly) won’t wanna download this week.
- Quore: Episode 3 -$2.99
- Talkman Travel (Paris, Rome & Tokyo) (PSP) $5.99 each
- PlayStation Home Theme – Free!
- Snakeball Team Mode Add-On – $1.99

- ‘Toxicity’ – System Of A Down (Rock Band DLC) – $1.99
- Interscope Track Pack (GHIII DLC) – $6.25
- PlayStation Home E3 Trailer
- Tomb Raider: Underworld Teaser Trailer – Free!
- The Last Guy Behind The Scenes Trailer – Free!
- AST Dew Tour Videos (x4) – Free!
- Madden NFL 09 Adaptability Trailer – Free!
- Madden NFL 09 E3 Trailer – Free!
- Madden NFL 09 20th Anniversary Trailer – Free!

- Dead Space Animated Comic Issue #4 – Free!
- Dead Space Dev Diary #5 – Free!

Like I said, a mediocre week all round. There’s a few interesting trailers here but nothing too much to excite people (well me at least). I want to reiterate that we do have Bionic Commando: Rearmed coming next week though so that’ll be good.

Along with some new DLC today Civ Rev has also been patched. Now the patch is really just to have the game support the DLC but there have apparently also been a few changes to the game too. It has apparently fixed some issues players were having when trying to play online as well as fixed some minor gameplay tweaks to make it a little better. You can see the full breakdown below.
DLC Functionality
The game now recognizes downloaded DLC packs and provides instructions on how to access the new DLC content when the game begins.Wonder and Artifact Pack Functionality
New Wonder and Artifact Packs appear in the single player game and have full Civilopedia entries accessible inside the game and on the main game menu when installed. These new Wonders and Artifacts do not appear in multiplayer games.Scenario/Single Player Map Functionality
When a Single Player Map Pack or a Scenario Pack is downloaded, the new scenarios/maps appear under the “Play Scenario” option. Multiplayer map packs are also visible in the Single Player “Play Scenario” field.Multiplayer Map Functionality
After the user has downloaded a Multiplayer Map Pack and the user creates a multiplayer game via Player Match or LAN Game, an additional Game Type is available – Scenario. This Game Type allow players to select from among any of the multiplayer maps they current have available to play their game on.The multiplayer lobbies have also been updated to display what map a game is playing. If a player in the lobby does not have the map that is being played, they will not be able to join that game and an icon and message will appear that states they are unable to join the game.
Gamespy Version Increase
The Gamespy version key has been increased to 1.01 to prevent players without the patch from seeing players with the patch.Joining Settlers to Cities
Previously, when players moved a settler unit into a city, they could had the option of that unit “Joining” the city, automatically giving it a full population point. Now, to prevent exploits, when players join a settler to a city, that city will only receive a set amount of food, meaning that in the later game, they will not provide a full population point to a city, only help it grow.
Instant Upgrades thanks to Retreating in MP Games
Previously, whenever a player retreated from combat, their opponent’s unit automatically received an upgrade. To prevent exploits, this feature has been removed from multiplayer. Now when a player retreats from combat in a multiplayer game, it counts as a victory for the defender, but the defender will not automatically receive an upgrade just because their opponent has retreated. If the retreating unit, for example, is stronger than the defender, or the retreat is the defender’s third victory, the defender can still receive an upgrade, but they do not always receive an automatic upgrade. Retreating still provides an automatic upgrade to the defending player in single player.Disbanding Militia Units
Previously, whenever a player disbanded a militia unit, they received gold for them. To prevent exploits, disbanded militia units now provide zero gold. Now when a player retreats from combat in a multiplayer game, his opponent’s unit receives nothing.Montezuma Seam Fix
A misplaced seam down the middle of the Montezuma model has been corrected. This has been corrected.Multiplayer Matching Fixes
The game was mistakenly searching for a scenario type when looking for multiplayer games previously. This has been corrected.Scenario Screen Improvement
The Single Player “Play Scenario” screen now has the ability to display colored text.[From PS3 Fanboy]
Sounds like this’ll be a good thing for Civ Rev and it’s players. This game’s going quite cheap, if only it had trophies. Either way (mostly) free content is always a good thing. in my book.

I’ve decided it takes the U.S. guys too long to get their act together, so from now on the weekly PS Store update will be split between the two regions. Well after that short intro, let’s move on to one of the worst weeks for content i’ve seen since buying my PS3 (May 2007). Not much to take anyones fancy here really, shame. Ah well, we’ve got ‘Bionic Commando: Rearmed’ next week.
- Secret Agent Clank PSP Demo – Free!
- Civilization Revolution Wonders & Artefact Pack: The Mythic – £0.69
- Interscope Track Pack (GHIII Add-On Pack) – £3.99
- Dead Space – Loved Ones Trailer – Free!
- Movement: Milan Part 2 – Free!
Like I said, it’s slim pickings this week. I guess the Civ Rev pack is cool (and cheap) for those who’ve got that but other than that it’s a pretty godawful week over on Europe’s PS Store. Let’s hope the US has got something better.

Sweet. News comes from the interwebs (IGN inparticular) that the PS3 version of BioShock looks better. IGN have said that the ‘port’ of the popular 360 game has “cleaner high resolution textures for every facet of the game”. Sounds nice. I’m really looking forward to getting this game as i’ve never played it. The new PS3 trailer makes it seem like an FPS, Survival Horror mash up. Am I right?
Anyway i’ve got mine pre-ordered and can’t wait to play it. Plus it’s got trophies, cool.
You can see the new trailer here along with a preview from IGN’s Jeff Haynes.

The promise of access to the beta for SOCOM: Confrontation is what made me buy the 1st episode of ‘Quore’. That purchase might pay off. It’s been reported today that the beta is going to kick off on the 1st of September for people who got GameSpot beta keys and for the people who bought ‘Quore’ it’ll start on the 8th with both sets of players having until September 30th to ‘test’ the game.
With the recent region locking of the PS Movie Store and the ‘Home’ beta i’ve got a feeling that this beta will too be region locked. I guess it only cost me £1.50 to try, I hope it does work though. I’ll bring more news when I get it.

The people of Japan got their ‘expansion’ of the beta last week and now it’s the U.S. and Europe’s turn. SCEE will be inviting people to join the expanded ‘Home’ beta based on their activity on the PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store. Here’s the official quote:
In Europe, SCEE is also beginning their expanded closed beta, directly targeting consumers who have been most active on PLAYSTATION Network and PLAYSTATION Store. SCEE will be in email contact with their PSN audience very shortly.
The U.S. have a similar deal to that of Japan (A theme download, image above), so i’m asking Sony, what gives? Anyway i’m sure there are a lot of people in with a chance of getting in either way. I’m pretty much never off the PSN and i’m always downloading games from the store, so come on Sony give a guy a break.
If I don’t get in this i’ll plead with SCEE to let me in when they start allowing press. Yeah, that should work. Either way I’ve got this gut feeling that Sony will make ‘Home’ announcements at either Leipzig or the Tokyo Game Show. Watch this space people.
