Impressions: Elefunk (PS3 – Via PSN)

This game’s had quite a bit of hype surrounding it for some reason, that’s quite surprising for a PSN exclusive game really, but after playing it I can see why. Elefunk is a fun, quirky puzzle game from 8bit games and looks like it could be a real jewel in the PSN’s crown.

It’s surprising now, after the PSN getting a bit of a battering from people because of it’s “lack of content”, that, whilst it might not have the ammount of content that XBLA does, the PSN is known to have some of the best quality titles of the two. With PixelJunk Monsters, Calling All Cars, Super Stardust HD and Echochrome the PlayStation store is slowly building it’s range of quality games for the consumers and Elephunk seems to be no exception.

I’ve played a demo version of this game and have to say after playing only two levels I was pretty hooked! The game has combined great physics with imaginiative challenges to create something special. I am yet to play multiplayer but I have heard that it’s really good and one that all the family can enjoy as well as the hardcore gamer. A definite good thing.

The only thing i’ve found wrong with the game is it’s pricing. You do get a lot for your fiver but, it’s only $5 in the US, which works out at about £2.50, shocking really. Either way every puzzle game fan should grab this because it’s fun, different and one of the most imaginative games of 2008.

Who knew getting from A to B could be so hard?

Elephunk is available from the PlayStation store for £4.99 and is worth it, but if you can buy it from the US and make the £2.50 saving it’s even better value.

DC Universe – Screens Ahoy!

One of the big thing shown at Sony’s E3 presser was Sony Online Entertainment’s DC Universe, an MMO for the PS3 and PC (did i hear that right?). The game looks awesome and whilst not being a fan of comic books, MMO’s or DC in general this comes as quite a surprise.

I did play World Of Warcraft for a while and before it started being a drag it was actually fun, this game looks to take that and hopefully it’ll improve on it. Plus with the new setting it does add an extra bit of interest to it rather than another weird beasts and blokes in tights MMO.

Being able to fight alongside Superman or fight The Joker is gonna be really cool. I just hope that the subscription will be a decent price and that it’s varied rather than being, to quote Yhatzee, “a big ol’ grind sandwich”.

Hopefully we’ll get more info soon but for now have a look at the screens and hope.

XeNonX Announcements (Yes there’s more)

I’m making announcements people (maybe I should’ve had a presser). Be warned, there’s gonna be changes. Good ones though.

  1. We (myself & Sam) will be recording the 1st/test podcast tomorrow. It should go up tomorrow night or Sunday, both here and on PC-Progamers (we’ve yet to decide if we’re going to put it on iTunes). We have the basics sorted but obviously it’s a tester so it might not go to plan and thus, not get released.
  2. Secondly, as you might have noticed I have changed the name of who is now editing the blog, yes it’s still me, but I have dropped the pseudonym and am now using my real name. I know, shocking isn’t it.
  3. Thirdly, hopefully they’ll be some additions to the blog staff as i’m aiming to get Sam or Romina (from PC-PG) to join me here as writers as well as them administrating PCPG, which should be good,
  4. Last, but no means least I am hoping to aquire the blog a new domain name (xenonx.co.uk) from Ads, who owns it from the old forum days.

Seems like I’ve got a lot on, but it’s hopefully going to help me expand the blog and get myself some more readers which’ll be nice.
