R.I.P.
Here Lies Barmelo’s PS3
11.05.07 (approx.) – 25.04.08
Yeah folks, my PS3 is pushing up the daises (hey let’s get the guy from the show in) and it’s final curtain has finally fell. My beloved Playstation 3 has lasted less than a year before becoming one of the 1% of PS3’s to have failed. It’s a sad day, a truly sad day. I have contacted Sony and as it’s under warranty they WILL be sending me a ‘new’ console free of charge, which should arrive on TUESDAY!
Why Tuesday of all days? Why that day? Tuesday is GTA day and that’s not good especially if I don’t get it back whilst 6pm and/or my Special Edition of GTA arrives early (which is possible). I guess it could be worse I could’ve ended up with no console for ages (a la Microsoft & the 360). I tried all of my local GAME shops and they’ve no 60GB consoles as they’re discontinued so i have to rely on Sony not to mess it up.
I was having a rather good day up until that point too. I was off college so I decided that in my time of boredom that i’d visit the ol’ cinema and watch a film. Well I rushed into the Odeon @ The Trafford Centre just in time to catch the beginning of the movie, that movie being the new Judd Apatow produced comedy, ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ starring Russell Brand (Various), Kristin Bell (Heroes/Veronica Mars) & Jason Segel (Knocked Up/How I Met Your Mother).
Yeah it was a pretty good movie. Russell Brand portrays, well, himself (with a different name o’ course) and because of that, and the fact I like Mr. Brand’s stand-up comedy, I thought it was a damn good movie and it pretty much had me laughing throughout.
God i sounded like a reviewer there. Well I guess that’s my mini review on ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and my verdict is that if you like Russell Brand and movies like ‘Knocked Up’ & ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ then this movie is for you.
Other than that i’ve been sat waiting for nothing as my PS3’s dead and i’ve absolutely nothing planned i’m pretty much gonna be bored until it turns up or something rather eventful happens.
N.B. As a mark of respect for my PS3 (lol) I will stop posting the GTA countdown as of today, thank you.
I would also like to dedicate this to my fallen comrade.

The YLOD issue is a growing phenomenon that Sony must address. YLOD seems to occur soon after the 1 year warranty is over. This issue is ultimately forcing early adopters to pay $150 to have their PS3 repaired. Its time to fight back. Sign up at http://www.playstation.com . Support the movement. It worked for X-Box 360 owners. It will work for PS3 owners as well.

Early adopters of the PS3 are starting see the number of defective units increase overtime. Though the numbers of defective units are not increasing faster than Microsoft’s console in the past, PS3 owners are starting to take concern.
The problem is PS3 was marketed as a multimedia center, and not just a video game console. For many, the PS3 eliminated the need for other electronics such as Blu-ray/DVD players, I pods, computers (PS3 has Linux OS), and DVRs. Early adopters are quickly becoming familiar with the words “burn out”, “over heated”, and “expired warranty”.
While Sony’s customer care representatives insist that the number of defective units are at 3%, those who fall under the 3% are most likely your early adopters who slept outside various stores to be the first to own a PS3.
One thing is for sure, Microsoft went the extra mile for XBOX 360 owners by extending the warranty from 1 to 3 years. Sony is looking forward to finishing the PS3’s year 2 campaign, and closing the gap on sales. They are not concerned about the early adopters being forced to pay an extra $150 to have their console work again.
Long gone are the days of the costumer always being right, and the loyal fans with issues being compensated.

My PS3 Fanboy I.D. is hanging in the balance with the cost of a new XBox 360 at $199.

My 60g went out on me. I had warranty with Best Buy so I took it back there since I paid for the 2 year warranty. It wouldn’t power back on and my Saints Row 2 game was stuck in it. They could see that it was in the machine, but wouldn’t give it back or exchange it because they had to send it off. I asked for them to at least write my name down since they said they may get it sent back. They refused, saying I could just have it back and send it to Sony if I didn’t like it. By this time they had partially cracked the system, trying to get the disc out. I wasn’t too happy. I still tried to be nice and ask for someone higher up but the manager said she was it, so I asked for her name, took my exchange (which was a 80g no backwards compatibility system with 2 ports) and went home. I got home and called consumer relations and they said they would send me a gift card for the game.
I did however, get 200 bucks credit since the I originally paid almost 700 bucks for the system. I used the money and went to Best Buy the next day with my wife and bought Guitar Hero:World Tour and Rock Band 2 for use with the original Rock Band instruments. We also bought the Nyko media hub for the extra ports. We played Guitar Hero and a few other games, since I already rented Rock Band 2 for my 60g before it broke.
Finally we put the Nyko media hub in and at the time only my drums and mic. I put Rock Band 2 in and we played it for about 20 minutes. Suddenly it went back to the main screen. I tried to go back into the game again and it only showed a black screen, however it wasn’t locked up because I was able to use the controller to quit the game. I used the controller to turn off my system and it went to standby and flashed blue and wouldn’t turn off. I waited for fifteen minutes. Nothing, until I held the button in myself. I thought maybe it was a faulty system, so I took it back.
System #2 exchange. Got it home, 80g again same model number and put in Nyko media hub, instruments and Rock Band 2. Did the same thing.
System #3 different Best Buy location, different model number this time and Rock Band 2 exchange. Same freaking thing and only when I go to play Rock Band 2 and put Nyko media hub in. It’s one of these two things. Loved my 60g to death, used it as everything. To watch movies, blu-ray, etc. I have almost the entire Rock Band downloads and have purchased about 40+ Ps3 games alone from the store, not counting downloads galore. Gotta say, extremely disappointed. I called Sony, called Best Buy and called Rock Band support. Everyone says it’s the other person’s fault. Don’t know what to do. Just letting you know so this doesn’t happen to you. System is currently working and thinking about trying to take it back tomorrow for a final exchange this time for the 120g even though I already have Uncharted, and will pay the extra 100 plus dollars, just to make the horror stop. I just would like my Ps3 to work, lol. Everyone get the word out and be careful. I was a huge supporter of Sony, but something is conflicting here.
P.s. I talked to a Sony manager on the phone and her response was she has never heard of anything going wrong with the Ps3 system, or it having any problems. She said she has one and a few of her friends. I basically politely informed her that firmware updates do screw stuff up. I bought GTA4 and loved it so bought it for a friend and it locked up his system online until the firmware fix came out. I bought Saint’s Row 2 for my 60g and everytime I went to load it locked up my system. If I went to continue it was fine. I tried it on friend’s systems and it was fine as was their game. Only some people had this problem with their models. However, this many systems, two different model numbers and two different Rock Band 2’s, means something isn’t right.
Give me your input guys and gals. Thanks a bunch! This isn’t me bashing Sony. This is be stating the truth and so exhausted from messing with this problem I’m ready to just keep my Ps3 until it breaks and bite the bullet, which just isn’t right.
